Check your own culture and see if they were like the Cretans. Ofcourse these days the Cretans are Greek Orthodox with very high christian standards. They even endured 400 years of Islam and rejected it outright . They taught their children the faith at 3:00 AM in the morning right under the Turks noses. When one reads Titus try keep in mind that this is the pre-christian era of Crete. Don’t laugh at a Cretan of today. They’re not this anymore anymore so than the Germans are barbarians today.
